590 MIGHTY MEMORY #436

The top 40.

WARMLANDERS FORTUNATE

As I listen to the “True Oldies Channel” on WARM, I appreciate that format more and more every day. Think of all the big top 40 powerhouses that dominated the early days of Rock and Roll. Stations like CKLW in Windsor/Detroit, WLS and WCFL in Chicago, WFIL and WIBG in Philadelphia, WKBW in Buffalo, WMEX in Boston as well as the biggie, WABC in New York City. All of those stations rock and roll heritages are gone. All of them have become Sports Talk or News Talk Stations. Some have gone the religious routes and others are dark. But because of the ownership decisions of Citadel Broadcasting and now Cumulus Broadcasting, plus the dedicated staff, WARM, the Mighty 590 still plays rock and roll music. The songs of the Top 40, for so long dominant in those 50,000 watt powerhouses are but a memory for those listeners in those cities. But here in WARMland, the Top plays on in the form of “True Oldies”, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

DEDICATED STAFF? What am I missing here? WARM is satellite fed and the rest is on a hard drive. Staff? What staff? The signal is shot, it's a lot of dead air and dated spots. Great staff. You really are a buffoon.

No need for name calling. WARM was kept on the air by a great radio engineer Phil Gallaso. Brian Hughes does news updates on the station to give it credibility. Sure it is a signal but it is still rock and roll and as I pointed out, the big powerhouses can't lay claim to that. There have been insiders inside the two ownerships who chose to kept WARM as a Music station instead of doing something that would marginalize it even more. A dedicated staff does not extend to air talent alone, it extends to boosters within ownership who choose to keep WARM as a semblance of what it once was. Glad you're reading my stuff even if you have the need to insult me. Thanks for reading and posting.

Hello, I simply wished to tell you, I disagree. Your current blog didn't make sense at all.

Galasso is gone. Hughes tapes ONE update per morning, and it's all material shamelessly stolen from the newspapers. I'd like to meet those "boosters within ownership" who let the signal rot and who don't promote the station. Shame on you. A previous commenter is right. The blog makes no sense.
